How we handle sensitive personal information when you sell or trade a Swiss timepiece

A watch transaction generates more sensitive personal information than most clients expect. Government identification, proof of address, payment routing details, and in some cases source-of-funds documentation all enter our records when a Swiss timepiece changes hands. We treat each of these categories as discrete, retain them only for the period required by anti-money-laundering and tax reporting obligations, and restrict internal access to the small number of staff who need it to complete the transaction or respond to a later authentication question.

Identification documents are the most sensitive layer. When a client presents a passport, driver's license, or national ID card, we capture the minimum needed to satisfy our verification obligations and the corresponding image is stored in an access-controlled record rather than a general operational folder. The same applies to any secondary proof of address. These records are not shared with watch manufacturers, auction partners, or marketing systems, and they are not used to build any profile beyond what the transaction itself requires.

Payment information receives a different treatment. Wire details, bank account numbers, and routing references pass through processors that hold the underlying card or account data on their own systems; we retain only the transaction reference and the amount. Cryptocurrency settlements, when offered, are recorded as wallet addresses and on-chain transaction hashes, which are inherently public but are not paired in our records with the identification layer except where regulation requires it.

Your choices about retention, access, and onward use

Clients can request a copy of the sensitive information we hold about a specific transaction, ask that older records be reviewed for deletion once the statutory retention window has closed, or restrict the use of any contact information for follow-up offers. Requests are processed by a privacy contact rather than the sales floor, and we respond within the timeframe required by the applicable jurisdiction. Where a client opts out of marketing contact, that preference is recorded against the underlying identifier and applied across the channels we operate.

We do not sell sensitive personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes. The narrow exceptions are the processors and couriers who handle a specific transaction on our behalf, the regulators and tax authorities entitled to it by law, and the authentication partners who occasionally review a piece on our instruction. In each case the information shared is limited to what the task requires, and the recipient is bound by a written confidentiality obligation.

If a question about a specific record cannot be resolved through the standard channel, clients may escalate to the data protection contact named on this page. The escalation route is intended to be straightforward; the privacy of a watch transaction should not depend on knowing which form to file.
